MTI Admission Standards

The certification program is open to licensed physical therapists. Applicants complete an application form and will be interviewed by the program directors prior to admission. The interview process is primarily used to assure that the therapist is aware of the scope of the program and to determine that they are willing to make the 2.5-year commitment necessary to complete the program.

Due to the limitations of their practice act, PTA’s cannot be admitted to the program and cannot become certified in manual therapy. Final admission is at the discretion of the Program Directors.

Admission standards for the Fellowship portion of the program are as follows:

  • Successful completion of the first year of the certification program.
  • A score of at least 80% on the written exam at the end of the first year.
  • The student needs to demonstrate problem solving skills at a higher level than their peers, which is measured by practical exams written exams and case presentations.
  • The student needs to demonstrate excellent manual skills in advanced evaluation and treatment. This is measured by exams in OSCE format, and assessed continuously throughout the program as the therapists interact and practice with their peers.
  • The student needs to demonstrate motivation towards learning, and a desire to improve their overall level of care, as well as the profession as a whole.
